The 2019 Ford Explorer is an excellent SUV with many family-friendly features including a spacious interior with lots of cargo room and a powerful engine capable of towing a boat or recreational vehicle. Check out some of these features of the Ford Explorer to see if it’s the right fit for your family.

Performance

The Explorer has a few engine options, depending on which trim level you chose. The base trim and XLT use a 3.5-liter V-6 engine that gets upgraded with EcoBoost twin turbochargers on the Sport and Platinum. The Limited changes it up with an intercooler, turbocharged EcoBoost 2.3-liter I-4 engine. Whichever engine you choose, acceleration and top end will not be an issue. The V-6 regular and I-4 engines push out just under 300 horsepower, while the turbocharged V-6 generates a hearty 365 horsepower

Depending on how well you need the Explorer to perform in inclement weather or off-road conditions, it comes in either front-wheel or all-wheel drive. With a six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission and four-wheel independent suspension with MacPherson front struts and multi-link in the rear. Gas-pressurized hydraulic shocks help dampen the impacts felt from bumps in the road, and a four-wheel disc with an anti-lock braking system and electronic power-assisted steering help the driver maintain control in bad weather conditions.

Interior

One of the biggest advantages inside the cabin of the Ford Explorer is all the extra space. Seven adult passengers can easily fit within the 151 cubic feet of passenger space, and the back two rows can be folded down in case you need extra cargo room. The Explorer comes standard with single-zone climate control that can be upgraded to dual-zone, cargo hooks, rearview camera, a twin-panel moonroof, and lots of extra storage.

The infotainment interface in the Explorer uses Ford’s Sync 3 system with a 4.2-inch color touch screen and multimedia applications such as Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, and SiriusXM. The Sync 3 system also has the ability to connect to your smartphone either by Bluetooth or USB. Other features include a seven-speaker sound system that is upgradable, a DVD player, separate displays for the second row, and navigational applications that utilize GPS and mapping technology to create routes and pinpoint your current position.

Safety

The Ford Explorer has a bunch of safety features that will help protect both you and your kids out on the road. Seats are equipped with LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tether Anchors for Children) technology, AdvanceTrac with roll stability control that will help keep the Explorer upright during side impacts, and multiple airbags that will mitigate impact to the driver and front passenger. The industry-first inflatable safety belts provide added protection to children in rear seats.

As you can see, the features of the Ford Explorer make it a great vehicle for families who are on the go. Whether it’s taking the kids to school, going on a vacation, or enjoying a day out of the house, the Ford Explorer will get the whole family where you need to go.
