Scruby’s BBQ 
One of our favorite local barbecue joints is Scruby’s BBQ. They serve authentic open pit BBQ and have been in business here since 1995. Start off your dinner off with one of their appetizers such as sweet corn nuggets, fried pickles, or southern-style breaded okra. Their specialty baby back ribs are char-grilled with their sweet BBQ sauce and go great with sweet potato fries or garlic toast. Grab one of their desserts to top it all off, such as a slice of their homemade key lime or peanut butter pie. Find them at 251 N. University Drive in Pembroke Pines.
Bare Bones BBQ and Jerk
Another great spot to find some fabulous barbecue is Bare Bones BBQ and Jerk. Focusing on the perfect smoked meat, this restaurant cooks all of its food in-house and everything is made from scratch. The Fat Pig Burger features pulled pork, lettuce, tomato, Carolina sauce, and grilled onions and is truly delicious. They also have brisket, pulled pork, and beef short ribs available by the pound if you have a big family craving some barbecue. They can be found at 1451 N. Palm Ave. in Pembroke Pines.
Shorty’s BBQ
Shorty’s BBQ is a local pit-fired barbecue joint that has been serving the area for 68 years. Their large menu lets you choose from several appetizers such as the cheese fries or fried green tomatoes before you move on to their signature BBQ. Combo platters let you choose from several options including their popular brisket and chicken combo with fries, garlic bread, and coleslaw. You can also grab one of their family platters such as the baby back rib and spare rib dinners for four. These are served with family size sides as well. Shorty’s is located at 5989 S. University Drive in Davie.
Firehouse BBQ & Smoking Co.
Last, but not least, is Firehouse BBQ & Smoking Co. Get your meat by the pound here and choose from BBQ beef, ribs, pulled pork, and brisket. They also have their famous Firehouse sandwiches on a kaiser roll with their signature sauce. Their dinners are all served with slaw, a roll, and BBQ baked beans. The Hook & Ladder Rib Platter is a popular one along with the Chief’s Platter, which is an all-meat sampler. If you want to try their chicken, turkey, ham, or lamb, make sure you call ahead so they can start getting it ready. Find them at 6401 Sheridan St. in nearby Hollywood.
