The Ford Explorer has launched 29 years ago as a family-oriented, 4-door sport utility vehicle. Now entering its sixth generation, the 2020 Ford Explorer comes with an all-new design that includes significant changes.

1. Superior Engine

Ford provided several engine options for the 2020 Explorer. The base engine is a 4-cylinder turbocharged powertrain that produces 300 horsepower and 310-pound feet of torque.

The Platinum and the ST trims have a 3.0 L turbocharged V6 engine. All models utilize a smooth and sturdy 10-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. A 4-wheel-drive option and a new hybrid variant are also available.

2. Better Performance

The Explorer offers a comfortable ride with easy handling and responsive steering. Unlike the previous Ford Explorer models, the 2020 model has a rear-wheel drive.

The auto shifts smoothly and quietly at low speeds, avoiding the constant hunting for gears that bedevils some SUVs. The new Ford Explorer has a towing capacity of up to 5600 pounds.

3. Interior

The redesigned interior is function friendly. It is solid and decently assembled, with ample legroom and comfortable seats. The layout provides an excellent driving position that allows the driver to cover long distances without cramping.

In addition to the good thigh and back support, the driver has an 8-way power adjustment and the dash is placed low enough to provide an exceptional forward view.

4. Seating Space

The Explorer has three rows that seat seven people in its standard configuration. You can also include a pair of captain’s chairs in the middle row. However, this will reduce passenger capacity to six.

There are several access points and adequate legroom in all three rows. Additionally, with a simple push of a button, you can move the second row of seats, making access to the third row easier.

5. Trunk and Cargo Space

The trunk space is impressive, offering 18.2 cubic feet behind the third row, 47.9 behind the second row, and 87.8 cubic feet when all rear seats are down. For extra small-item storage, the front row has room for phones and cup holders beneath the center console. The middle armrest can also fold for more space.

6. Infotainment

The new Ford Explorer is fitted with Ford’s versatile infotainment system with an 8-inch central touchscreen display. It has access to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity as well as voice-activated navigation. It also comes with the option of a vertically oriented 10.1-inch touchscreen.

7. Safety and Technology

Ford equipped the new Explorer with a set of standard safety features in the Co-Pilot360 package, including

  • Lane keep assist
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Pre-collision warning
  • Post-collision braking
  • Forward automatic emergency braking
  • Pedestrian detection

Other available safety features include evasive steering assist, speed sign recognition, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and lane-centering ability.

The new Ford Explorer represents an evolution of the Explorer model. The redesign boosts its handling, improves its towing capacity, and makes the interior more spacious. To schedule a test drive, contact Pines Ford in Pembroke Pines, FL.
