Fort Lauderdale has a wide variety of museums that will keep everyone entertained. If you’re looking for something fun to do, check out the following four museums in the area.

Stranahan House

The Stranahan House is the oldest surviving building in Broward County. It was built in 1901 to be used as a town hall, post office, trading post, and Stranaham home. This old home is full of great stories, so if history is your thing, you’ll love taking a guided tour. During the tour, guides will tell you about the house itself as well as its founding family and Fort Lauderdale.

The museum is currently open for guided tours on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The tours begin at 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00 p.m. Tickets $12 for adults, $11 for seniors, and $7 for students.

Naval Air Station Fort Lauderdale Museum

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly museum, the Naval Air Station Fort Lauderdale Museum is a great choice. It’s operated solely by volunteers, so admission is free or donation only. Both children and adults will enjoy viewing vintage aircraft models, World War II torpedoes, and various medals and uniforms from the military. The museum’s library, the John Payne Memorial Library, is home to many copies of war diaries and aviation log books that you can browse through.

After your tour, you can head outside to the Butterfly Garden and check out the memorial in honor of Flight 19. The museum is open on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Bonnet House Museum & Gardens

The beautiful 20th-century Bonnet House Museum & Gardens features gorgeous interior decor, stunning architecture, and a wonderful art collection that was originally the property of the house’s former owners, Frederic and Evelyn Bartlett. The Bartletts created much of the house’s design in the 1920s.

The Bonnet House is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $20 for adults and $16 for children ages 6 to 12, and admission is free for children under 6. They offer a discount to active military members and local South Florida residents. If you would like to skip the guided tour of the house, you may purchase access to the gardens for $10.

Museum of Discovery & Science

The Museum of Discovery & Science is a great way to mix things up and experience some hands-on fun. Kids will love taking a simulated trip to the moon or Mars, challenging their skills as a pilot in the cockpit simulators, and getting close-up interactions with alligators, turtles, iguanas, and more. With over 200 interactive exhibits, there will be plenty of fun to keep you and your family entertained for an entire day.

The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays with varying hours. Entrance to the museum costs $24 for adults, $22 for seniors, and $19 for military and children ages 2 to 12, and it is free for children age 1 and under.

Whether you enjoy art, history, or hands-on fun, Fort Lauderdale is sure to have a museum for you.
