Trying to determine which vehicle within Ford’s current line-up of SUVs is right for you? The Ford Escape and EcoSport are both impressive five-passenger vehicles, each with their own set of features and highlights. Read on for help in determining which compact SUV is for you.

Escape

A compact crossover SUV, the 2019 Ford Escape is available in four trim levels including S, SE, SEL, and Titanium. The S trim is a reasonably bare-bones vehicle, so most buyers are likely to start looking at the SE trim featuring a power-adjustable driver seat, nicer wheels, an upgraded engine, and several available upgrade options. The mid-range SEL level continues to add convenience features while the top level, the Titanium trim, bring touches of luxury and a powerful engine.

What’s New

Part of the third Escape generation initially released in 2013, the 2019 Ford Escape introduces several new options including keyless entry with push-button ignition becoming standard starting with the SE trim, and Sync 3 infotainment no longer being an upgrade instead coming standard with the SE trim.

The Many Pros

Buyers are benefiting from the Titanium levels quick acceleration thanks to the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, the handling and steering of the Escape feels more like a car than a larger SUV, tech interface features including improved voice control along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and space for small items and cargo.

A Few Things to Consider

While impressive overall, the Escapes 1.5-liter I-4 engine delivers a slightly slower acceleration while the inside design could benefit from a modern update. While drivers like the power delivered with the Titanium’s turbo engine, they do experience a decrease in range and fuel economy.

EcoSport

A subcompact crossover, the 2019 Ford EcoSport sits just below the Escape in the Ford SUV lineup and is available in four trim levels including S, SE, Titanium, and SES. The EcoSport S level starts with impressive features including basic amenities desired from modern vehicles and available all-wheel drive. While pricer, the SE level adds extensive features to enjoy. The top two levels provide buyers a choice of sporty or luxury. The SES features sport-themed features along with making the all-wheel drive and a more powerful engine standard while the luxurious Titanium trim brings a B&O Play premium audio system and leather upholstery.

What’s New

A member of the first generation of EcoSports rolled out in 2018; the 2019 EcoSport sees several features previously optional now becoming standard.

The Many Pros

Drivers of the 2019 EcoSport boast of the above-average for this class cargo space, more availability for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, an easy to use and fast Sync 3 infotainment interface, and all-wheel drive that is available at every trim.

A Few Things to Consider

While overall buyers love the EcoSport, buyers would like to see more advanced safety aids available, slightly better fuel economy, more power when carrying cargo and additional passengers and a smoother ride.
